Not really sure what type of rock it is that this is on. I broke a piece off and the specific gravity I got was 2.5. Maybe a form of quartz? But my question is, what would make the cavity form in the shape of a star like that?

Yes, I think it is normal quartz in crystals that are grown around agate-like centers (translucent white) with crystals too small to see more than as sparkles. Good that you did the specific gravity test!

You obviously have some experience with image manipulation. It would help if you would explain the relationship between the three images, and in particular if (as I suspect) the third image has the star from the first image superimposed on it.

It would also help to know if the hole widens as it goes down. I.e. is the star shape maintained to the bottom of the hole, or is it just a feature of the upper surface?

I suspect that you have a beautiful coincidence on your hands, but others may have other ideas.

I'm not able to edit my post not sure why. The 2nd image "Wierdrock1` (1).jpg" is the other side of the rock - the way it was when I found it. And yes, the 1st image is a close up of the 3rd image. It does widen as it goes down. Some of the other cavities have a similar shape just not as distinct as the one I took pictures of.

This is in some of the cavities it was in the star formation but i got it out with muratic acid. Any ideas what this is or could this have anything to do with the star shape?

Just an idea: twinned muscovite.
I add a picture of Muscovite twinned crystals from Linopolis, Divino das Laranjeiras, Brazil.

Sorry I have no idea of what could have made this weird hole, but to me this type of quartz seems sedimentary, formed at low temperature. Although shape matches I would say that muscovite is a unlikely inclusion for this quartz.
