I am not an expert on mineral localities, but I know what a vein etc. looks like. Now I live in Massachusetts (USA) around the town of Wrentham. We have a ton of granite and milky quartz here, but is it worthwhile searching for a pocket in this region? _________________ FMF |

Hi Jared, perhaps someone on this Forum, who lives in, or knows the geological make-up of your area, will read this question and respond. Best regards. _________________ Pierre Joubert

Hi Pierre, I found your posts (How to find a pocket? - (22) on here very interesting and helpful. I would really like to know a bit more about the Western Cape Region, and especially Capetown as I am staying in the city and recently got into mineral collecting since 2012 .. I am now at a point of frustration because many shops are selling specimens at ridiculous prices, when I know that there are deposits right under my nose and methods to get quartz myself. I am still quite young (24) and not very geared up on where to start looking exactly. Also, I do not own a car, so I am not very mobile to travel far out of the city. Some guidance would be highly appreciated as to where I can start looking for pockets and veins(surrounding mountains such as table mountain or certain mountain hiking trails) also abandoned local mines(if there are any) .. I'm impatiently looking forward to your response, I would pm you but I have to wait 10 days until I gain access to doing that. Thanks in advance. |
