The Russell Society has a strong branch in the midlands with regular field trips in the summer and lectures in winter. As a member you can get access to working quarries which are out of bounds to ordinary mortals. Check out their website :

I'd go for the Russell Society. They can be a bit 'academic' but I learned a lot from them when I first joined over 30 years ago. Their newsletters and journals also contain a wealth of useful information. The British Micromount Society have a west midlands branch and if you enjoy looking at small but perfectly formed crystals they will give you a lot of help. |

I thought you would have found a club by now!
Try Black Country Geol Soc at https://bcgs.info/pub/
or the West Midlands Regional Group of the Geol Soc at https://www.geolsoc.org.uk/wmrg
[I used to work in Birmingham so I know about these.]

MIKE, Finding and joining a rock club is not rocket science; I do not know what your problem is as you mention where you live and that you do drive. Also, you have been given good advice on local and regional clubs by others from your area as well.
So now google rock clubs in your region and take the other's advice. I suggest you pick one that has been listed or mentioned. Then find out when and where it next meets. GO TO THE CLUB'S NEXT MEETING AS A GUEST and see what it has to offer and how convenient the meeting site and time is for you. Then do the same for another club if there are more than one. After you attend the club meetings as a guest once or twice, only then decide whether you want to join one or the other or both.
As I noted, this way you can see how convenient they are to your home and daily schedule and then make your decision. For me, this seems straightforward, simple and not rocket science. CHEERS......BOB |

Only trying to gather as much info on different clubs and peoples experiences, as I don't want to pay money out without knowing what I get for my money. |

MIKE, If it is as you say and you want to get your money's worth with your club membership, then do exactly as I suggest. You should attend the next 1 or 2 club meetings as a guest and only then make your decision whether or not to join and pay your membership fees. No one on this website can help you with that; it will be your personal choice. We can only tell you where your local clubs are, not whether or not join. CHEERS.......BOB |
