Mark, beats me. My guess is the owners/miners are limiting information about the site. I bet someone reading this knows. I know I would keep it under my hat. My hope is specimens from this find are preserved, note that Cross Jewelers seem to be "close" to the find. I did a quick look at Van King's great book, "Maine Feldspar, Families, and Feuds", and found no reference, no surprise.

Although no person's faces were shown, my personal guess is the Havey Quarry in Poland. Another possibility is the "new" quarry just north west of the Mount Mica property, possibly the former Stearns Farm prospect or one just southeast of it. The imaged quarry is too big to be a prospect pit.

I agree that the local Maine people already know what quarry it is and who is involved.

That is a video shot at Mount Marie, near Streaked Mountain in Paris, Maine. Cross Jewelers gave it the name Sparhawk Tourmaline to obscure the source.

Dennis Durgin has been making some great finds of fancy-color tourmalines. Search on "Durgin's of Maine" to find his site and see photos.

The Havey Mine. The Sparhawk was misdirection. I'd like to thank JM, mine owner, for the chance to collect the location on 8/28/16. Incredible opportunity to see the almost electric blue to green colors coming out of the enclosing pocket sand. I took three photo's all day and these are them. I had an immersive experience that somehow did not include my camera.

Do you remove them from the hard pocket mud like that or were they loose already?

Mike, the sand is very compact and surrounds the crystals completely in this pocket. Each pocket is different, as shown in the film, sometimes the sand is loose and can be washed away. A cotter pin puller is the tool of choice. Kind of a ice pick with a 90˚ bend on the tip. It's used to good effect in loosening the harder sand. The sand, under the scope, is made up of tiny quartz crystals, broken and corroded rubellite, tiny elbaite bits and eroded cleavelandite compacted together. In this pocket, I would say, not one crystal came out in one piece. Some were terminated but all were broken. A brief discussion was had over re-assembly and some may be. The pocket contents were a real jumble as you can see in the "matrix" image. I was a guest so I did no work on this find, but I was taken to school.
