PostPosted: Jan 09, 2009 17:05    Post subject: Quartz perimorph after Calcite

Also one of my favourites (although it is too large at all for display ;-) ) - a perimorph of quartz after calcite crystals, hollow at the back and quite nice if illuminated with backlight (but also a bit of esoteric then :-) ) so i decided not to post that picture.
Size 59 x 29 x 16 cm, Cavnic, Romania.
The largest specimen in my collection (i prefer small cabinet) and also an "older" one, from the early 1990s.

PostPosted: Jan 10, 2009 19:35    Post subject: Panasqueira combo

This was one of my first "expensive" specimens i got (i was a student then and only little money) ... acquired at the Munich show in the mid-1980s - and still one of my favourites. An almost total "floater" of wolframite with siderite, apatite, quartz and pyrite/marcasite. Overall size 16 x 13 x 6 cm.

PostPosted: Feb 05, 2009 13:51    Post subject: Galena Sweetwater mine

Thanks Jordi,
so i will go on ..
Specimen with a highly lustrous undamaged stretched/modified cube of second generation galena on dolomite with first generation dull (cubo)octahedral galena on limestone matrix. Also some iron sulfides and chalcopyrite present.

I first wanted to sell this one but then i compared with other samples i have from there and must admit that it is quite worth keeping.

Size 9 x 7 x 4.5 cm

PostPosted: Feb 05, 2009 16:47    Post subject: Elbaite, Malchany, Russia

Jon,
nice to "see" you here, small world :-) but not unexpected.
Another one: Tourmaline var. Elbaite from the Malkhan pegmatite field (Malchany), Transbaikalia (Zabaykalye), Eastern-Siberian Region, Russia, size 2.8 x 2.2 x 1.8 cm.

Got this one in the 1990s from J. Badanina, St. Petersburg, who worked on those deposits as PhD thesis - still one of my favourite gem beauties.

Cheers
Roger
(BTW your parcel grows ;-) )

PostPosted: Feb 05, 2009 17:09    Post subject: Emerald, Ural Mts. Russia

last for today ...
Beryl var. Emerald crystals (partly with terminations) in/on mica schist (probably biotite), Malyshevo, Ekaterinburg (Sverdlovsk), Ekaterinburgskaya (Sverdlovskaya) Oblast', Middle Urals, Urals Region, Russia. Size 3.8 x 4 x 2.2 cm.

P.S. .. still struggling with Carles database .. it requires administrator rights ... so i got it working now (and well working) but it would be nice if it worked in restricted accounts ... Carles, do you read ;-) ?

Hi Roger!

I have the calcite!
This is an old pict of your quartz perimorph after calcite.
Looks like your quartz, but this one is smaller.

Jose,
hehe .. yes the calcite is the grandpa of my perimorph. Very nice specimen BTW.

Ok, and another one from my collection:
approx 10 cm width, Elbaite (var. Verdelite) with termination on Quartz, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Cheers
Roger
