|
|
I have found an excellent micromount dealer on the web. His prices are a bargain and, even better, he is Canadian so his dollars are worth less than my American ones (no offense, Canadians...just an economic fact). And there is a big micromount show coming this autumn I plan to attend.
So, soon will come the issue of storing these specimens. I live in a one bedroom apartment style condo, and I already have a lot of things here (including a home gym), so space will be a premium. Also, my carpentry skills are south of execrable. So what would you advise me on organizing and storing my tiny boulders? |

I have an old flat file cabinet that someone put out for the trash a while back - works like a charm! It has multiple drawers that are shallow, so they're perfect for micromount boxes. |

Lots of folks use antique spool cases...these were used in old general stores to store and sell spools of thread...back when people actually sewed by hand! The drawers are perfect height for TNs or micromounts. They are more expensive than the flat file Kushmeja repurposed but they look very nice in almost any setting. They float through on local Craigslists periodically _________________ Siempre Adelante! |

Agreed - Craigslist, garbage day and yardsales/flea markets would be good sources to find something cheaper that you can repurpose |

A potentially cheap interim solution is pizza boxes. Perhaps you can persuade a local pizza joint to give you 6 or 10 boxes for large pizza, for the advertising value of having them there at shows, stacked up and showing the brand name. Or even if you have to pay $.50 each for them, $5 is not much to pay for a stacking system that will probably hold 1000 micromounts or more.... _________________ Collecting and studying crystals with interesting habits, twinning, and epitaxy |
