Hi to everybody! It happened to me as well to find something among the rocks in a railway station: in my collection I have a good calcite drusa I found in San Remo, Italy, close to the French border Ventimiglia/Menton, right within the railway rocks! I ask myself what would have happened if a train got on it! And in a second time it happened to me in Lavrion, Greece, where it's not so seldom to find some azurite or malachite specimen among the railway rocks!
Greetings from Italy by Riccardo.

well, the circumstances of the find i never heard of. Hence thanks for mentioning it;-) Do you know when exactly these quartzes have been found?

Nice scalenohedron of calcite. Very similar to the ones from Elmwood, Tennessee. I think it would also be interesting to view it in other positions if you have the time (and the patience) to get your own shots.

Quite similar to Elmwood, Carles, but completely colourless. Maybe i'll take some more shots soon, but first another specimen:
Galena from famous mining district of Trepča (former Yugoslavia, now Kosovo). The specimen had several previous owners and came with an assortment of older labels. Now it has one more ;-)

A new year - a new era of labels ;)
I think of using this as my new label style for the display collection (40 x 25 mm), what do you think about the layout?

They look like to me fine, delicate labels. I do like them. Maybe they have lost something of their previous German atmosphere. But the German language is always "German enough".

I think i know what you mean, Antonio ;-) But i think my new ones look better than all others before. So let's go back to specimen pictures: After the vanadinite picture above was a poor picture made by the previous owner, here are new photos i made of that new addition, together with the new label.

Thank you, Carles. I often struggle with mineral photographing, some specimens simply drive me up the wall when i try to capture them. There are many differences between the specimens. For example the small galena from Siegerland above - only a few shots and i had this picture, which i would consider as the best mineral photo i ever took ( https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/files/stahlberg_670.jpg )
This fluorite wasn't that easy to capture, thus the picture is by far not as good as the really fine one of the small galena above :-(

Tobias,
I think the Fluorite photo turned out well.
I agree with you about the difficulty in taking photos. Sometimes I only need to take a single shot to get a good photo. Other times, after 40 or so shots I just give up and pick the best one, sometime none are good. Often it is with glassy minerals (but not always). Often it is with dark minerals on white minerals.

I'm glad not to be only one with this problem - but i knew before that i am not ;-) I remember Carles often telling me that he has really long sessions until he gets some of his specimens captured. Really comforting that you also know this problem ;-)
Here's again an example of a specimen that made it really easy for me to take a picture (old specimen, MUCH better photo):
My next challenge is a new specimen of smoky quartz from the Alps. I hope i can publish some photos today, but i know yet that this specimen will not be easy to capture. Large clear crystals, many light reflections ... but as i said: It is a challenge, so let's face it :-)
