Hi all! Thought I'd share my personal collection as well, while I'm here.
At this point in time, I focus on collecting thumbnails and small miniatures, around the 1.5-3 cm size range. I have a particular love for specimens from the Kalahari Manganese Field, but at the end of the day, I will acquire anything that I find to be colorful, aesthetically-pleasing, and beautiful. I will admit to being a very superficial collector!

Starting off with a favorite of mine: one of the best N'Chwaning rhodochrosite thumbnails I've seen yet. From the Lieber and Logan collections. I love the perpendicular arrangement of the main crystals. Great terminations as well.

The piece to the right of that rhodochrosite doesn’t look bad either…

Gerard, this one is for you then :) Also up there as one of my favorites, along with the previously posted rhodo. This was my first four figure specimen; scary at the time, especially as a college student!!
I initially assumed it was a Muzo Mine specimen, but I found out later on (by someone who turned out to be the previous owner!) that it was actually La Pita. Interestingly, many of the calcites that make up the matrix are twinned.
Good eye; my avatar is a painting of this exact piece (though from the back view).

Very nice specimen. Could actually be from the Cunas mining area, in the La Pita district.

I hope that all collectors are somehow "superficial" then. I would say, even "specialists" should be also somehow driven by aesthetics :) I am definitely with you in this approach !
Very interesting and beautiful first 2 specimens you published here. Fantastic emerald, with a cute nest of colored calcites... And crazy color for the Rhodo!

Thank you, Silvia! I actually graduated from college very recently :)
Funnily enough, I began by collecting big polished chunks of Labradorite. A close friend of mine in elementary school had a piece of one that I fell in love with, and as I began researching labradorite, I started to fall into the rabbit hole of minerals in general.
However, I wasn't really a "serious" collector until around 2019, when I became active on Mindat. Paul Brandes, one of the Mindat managers, directed me to join the Young Mineral Collectors on Facebook. It was then my collection philosophies really began to blossom, and I started to invest seriously into my collection AND into the community as a whole. For me, the actual minerals are only half of it; the people in the mineral collecting world are equally as precious to me.
I have to thank Paul, the Spanns (they sponsored my first trip to Tucson!), and my YMC peers in particular. Without them, I wouldn't be the collector I am today.

Another for the morning. Traded a painting to a friend for this specimen, and it's since been my favorite fluorite specimen. I'm very picky with fluorite in general, but this one did catch my eye.

As a student I was ways too poor to afford even a mediocre specimen and this decades ago - congratulations. So, all these nice South African Rhodochrosites that were available for pocket money in those days - compared to today's gouged prices, unfortunately did not end up in my collection, smile
Are you sure these calcites are not dolomites? Difficult to tell from the photo, but the mentioned twinning points to dolomite

Here is the back, if it helps! I've never seen dolomite with this color and waxy luster, but I could be wrong.
