I’m pretty sure I know what it is, I’m just curious how to smooth the scruffs

I found it in a rock pile at work. It’s pretty heavy I’d say nearly 90% is all geode. However as you can see it’s been roughed up scraping against rocks. My question is how do I polish it or get rid of all these white scrapes?I’ve googled but none really gave me definitive answer

One old trick to reduce the 'scruff' marks on many quartz-family pieces is a quick rub with mineral oil, won't eliminate them and it's not permanent.

You could polish it, if you want. Not a 'sin'

It could be polished with many things, as James said.
But, even not been a sin, I think it looks far nicer as it is... At least from photo (and according to my taste, that should be said)

Best thing to do is to contact your local mineral/lapidary club. They will have access to the correct grinding/polishing equipment to put a smooth polished face on this for you...you may even find that you've gotten yourself a new hobby!

This looks more like a cobble of Calcite or possibly gypsum rather than Quartz. See if you can scratch it using a pocket knife or nail.
