PostPosted: Jul 03, 2007 18:08    Post subject: Sulfosalt-Included Calcite & Quartz from Maramures

A number of reputable dealers offer remarkable specimens of Boulangerite- and Jamesonite-included Calcite and Quartz specimens. Since both sulfosalts are known to occur in mines within Maremures County and the colors and crystal habits of these minerals are so remarkably similar, how is the purchaser to be confident of the identification. For example, is chemical analysis typically used to ensure specimen identity?

Us we did on the past a chemical analysis of one specimen from this area with "plumosite" outside and inside Calcite, and the result was Boulangerite, that's why we label our specimens as "Boulangerite inclusions". Our chemical analysis is available and if you really need it we can publish a digital copy of it here in the Forum.
Anyway, it is more than possible that both species: Jamesonite and Boulangerite appears together in Maramures area, us we did just one analysis, if we did more maybe we founded also the Jamesonite...

Jordi
