Nihau Taoxue
A good start is the special Issue of the journal The Mineralogical Recod: History of Mineral Collecting. It tresta the first known centuries of mineral collecting and highlights some of that times most well known collectors. During my first trip to China in 1988 it was realy difficult and expensive to get specimens and now we are so spoiled!
Best regards
Peter

The first serious mineral collector in Japan was Kiuchi Sekitei in the 18th century (Shogunate era). His father was a well-off bureaucrat, so the young Kiuchi was able to travel all over the country collecting rocks. In 1773 he published the first mineral book in Japanese, titled "Unkon-shi". He had no access to Western literature on minerals, so his only written sources seem to have been ancient Chinese texts on medicines. Apparently the Chinese had a long history of using minerals in medicine. (As a side note, I took a micromount collection to China once, and the customs officers asked me whether they were for medical use.)

Taoxue,

You tried many times to publish the message upper but our antispam deleted it due the words: "...mine.It.." because you don't let space between "mine" and "it" and our antispam considered it (wrongly) as a prohibited suffix.

Please try again and please try to write it properly, with spaces between dots, comas, etcetera...and the words. Thank you.
