Oleg:

Your minerals are extraordinary and they represent a profound knowledge of the best available along with an exceptional taste in specimen selection. I am sure that I am not the only visitor to this Forum who would like to know more about you. Where do you live? How long have you been collecting? What is your educational background? How have you been able to assemble such an outstanding collection? If you consider these questions too personal and do not care to respond, I understand completely, but I hope that you will agree to allow us to come to know you better.

PostPosted: Jul 24, 2010 23:39    Post subject: Re: Collection of Oleg Lopatkin

Dear John ! Thanks for such good feedback about the min.specimens, that have been posted on this forum from my side ...

In principle, information about me can be found on my site: https://www.pegmatite.ru (link normalized by FMF) but am will try to respond more fully to your questions:

I was born in the city of Murmansk, is the up north of Russia, Kola Peninsula - these places, I think are known to all collectors, as a place - the rich deposits of various mineral resources, in particular mountain range Hibiny ...

Since childhood I have traveled across the fields with the geological party, which was part of the organization, where my father worked. As a result, the age of seven I got my first specimens: eudialyte, astrophyllite, zircon, etc. etc.

The first education I received, after studying at the Academy of Oil and Gas named after Gubkin in Moscow, majoring in structural geophysicist oil and gas ... There were years of field work directly in the oil fields in the far north of Russia and in survey field for Nopec, GSI and another companies...

And currently I am working in the business that connected with the supply of equipment for drilling wells...

My hobbies - travelling, mountain hikes, photography and minerals :) Am try to travel a lot (when I have free time to do it...) and try to bring from my trips some new, interesting mineral specimens...
I am not a professional mineral dealer ... I sell min. specimens and it brings me some income, but the main thing that I get - it's new min. specimens to my collection, as a result of this activity

My current collection of aesthetic minerals from pegmatite formations - it's looking a bit different if compare with my first collection, which was collected at old years by myself....

I try to visit Munich Mineral Show every year and plan to be in this year there too ... During the exhibition in Tucson, I usually very busy on my job.... and therefore do not visiting this min. show (to my great regret)

I really would be interesting to develop the exchange of specimens with collectors from other countries and I have something to offer from my side...

I am frequently at the stand of Fabre Minerals, which is my unofficial office. Messages can be left with Jordi or any of his assistants. I also spend much time at the stands of Rocks & Minerals magazine and the Russian journal Mineralogical Almanac (Mineral Observer). I should be easy to find.
