Thanks for your message.

The caramel-colored crystals perhaps look In the photo like octahedrons of a second fluorite generation.

But I´ve consulted with a great Panasqueira expert (our friend Jordi Fabre, overall FMF coordinator) and they are prisms with a rhombic section. It is siderite.

Calcite on Quartz geode from Choique Mine, Neuquén, Patagonia, Argentina. Acquired in Bogotá.

Scalenoedrals Calcite crystals on Hematite included Quartz geode with pale red shades.


Mineralogical Record February 2020 carries a report of this mine.

Min. Rec.: “These quartzs likewise owes its color to an iron cromophore and is not equivalent to rose quartz.
All geodes have quartz as the substrate, and calcite crystals are among the first minerals to form on the quartz”.
