Gold Au

Description: A humble (and cheap) Moroccan specimen, just to increase my parallel chemical elements' collection. It is a loose beautifully spinel law twinned grouping of bright crystallized native gold. In super condition all around. Collected in September 2021.

Dimensions: 25 mm x 3 mm x 2 mm.
Largest crystal size: 25 mm.
Mass: 1.15 g.

Locality: Aouint Ighoman, Assa-Zag Province, Guelmim-Oued Noun Region, Morocco.

Anapaite Ca2Fe2+(PO4)2.4H2O

Description: Sparkly greenish and bright transparent microcrystals of anapaite lining a Miocene clay matrix inside an open nodule vug. From a very well-known locality in Europe. A gift from Francesc Coma (former curator of the Joaquim Folch collection), who field collected it in 1966.

Dimensions: 96 mm x 79 mm.
Mass: 370 g.

Locality: Prats i Sansor, Baixa Cerdanya, Catalonia.

Description: A great number of lustrous, translucent yellow-green crystals of titanite, accompanied by colorless crystals of albite perched all around throughout a matrix with a columnar shape. Ex-collection Marc A. Fleischer, Phoenix, AZ.

Dimensions: 85 mm x 34 mm.
Largest crystal size: 12 mm.
Mass: 95 g.

Locality: Ankarafa titanite claim, Daraina Commune, Vohémar District, Sava, Madagascar.

Description: Complete single scalenohedral, mostly transparent crystal of calcite aesthetically attached to a matrix made up of sphalerite crystals covered by many small white rhombohedral crystals of dolomite.

Description: A floater specimen of typical dodecahedral pyrite crystals with well-defined faces and edges and excellent luster. No visible damage. The time passed since it was mined in 1994, and being today still unaltered, confirms that the piece is very stable. Ex Josep Amigó collection. Fabre Minerals specimen (2008).

Carles, it is my understanding that the Ambas Aguas locality produces a greater variety of crystal forms than that of Navajun, where there seems to be a preponderance of simple cubes. I really like the dodecahedrons on your specimen. It's a wonderful piece.

Hi Michael

Pyrites from Navajún are usually cubic with flat and very bright faces. It is extremely rare to find another habit.

Ambasaguas, which is only about 18 km away from Navajún (in a straight line), produces many pyritohedral crystals, and cubic ones can be easily found there too, although they are typically striated and smaller.
