No Sir, show me the papers where I signed that! ;-)
Seriously, I'm embarrased for this honor. For many European mineral collectors Tucson is a kind of "alien planet" far away of our world. To be correspondent of this mega-show is like to be abduced...
I will do my best to promote Tucson, the dimensions of the Tucson Shows and the tradition of the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show™ deserve it. I passed an important and intense part of my life in Tucson and I grew in mineralogy there. Probably is the time to return part of what I got.
Jordi

Packing the vehicle today, on the road tomorrow. Looks like I might actually make the drive between incoming storm fronts. Then two weeks for mineralogical feeding frenzy!
Here's a photo of Joan's and my display for the TGMS show, laid out before packing. Hard to compete with folks like Gail and Jim on "gem crystals" but we'll give it a go. Just fun to be part of the greatest show on earth. See you there.
Cheers,
Jesse

Just in case you forgot that the Main Show starts next week, here is a reminder. Get your rest, hold back a few bucks and come prepared to spend. When you get your show program be sure to note that we have added Sunday lectures to our program. Rob Lavinsky, Pete Knudsen, Courtland Lee and Francisco Sotomayor, have promised to stimulate your mind that day.
On another point ... booze at the Tucson Convention Center. I was acosted by an unidentified mineral collector the other day and asked "...why the TGMS concern?" As a long time sipper of Two Buck Chuck and no stranger to stronger pleasures, I responded that our contract with the TCC stipulates that ALL beverages sipped at the TCC be purchased from Aramark, their sole supplier.
With that technicality in mind, we added two lounges serving alcoholic beverages to our floor plan. If you want to enjoy alcohol, please use these designated areas. Check out their location in our show program.
We also added two rest lounges to our floor plan this year. There you will find chairs to rest your tired, aching feet and a place to plant your weary partner while you continue bragging about your latest purchase. Check the show program for locations.
A limited number of chairs are also placed in front of the central exhibit cases, including Les's Competetive Cases, for those who want to debate and ponder.
Enjoy the Show!
John

I appreciate the time and effort you all put into that, sounds like even those absent like me will still be able to get to experience the show to a fairly good degree.
Gail, I noticed there are some threads of photos you've taken for prior shows. Do you only post the photos and other media you take from shows here on FMF or do you have a site or blog? If so I'd sure like to get the link. |

I wanted to thank Justin Zzyzx at "The Vug" for taking some great photos of the special TGMS case that Jim Bleess and I organized and that met with some initial skepticism from what I remember -- the case entitled "Connoisseur Thumbnails."
https://www.the-vug.com/vug/article269.html
We had about 80 specimens, but as it turned out the case worked beautifully and was extremely well received by collectors and lay people alike. I submit that the specimens we showcased -- loaned by many of the the major TN collectors in the hobby -- competed well with the larger gem crystals and specimens on display at the show.
Cheers,
Jim

Jim, the case was very beautiful and informative. Fun to chat with those that added to it, a personal tour was given by so many, nice!

Thanks, Gail
Indeed, a new tradition has begun... the "Connoisseur Thumbnails" will be a regular exhibit from now on. Jim Bleess and I already have some great ideas for the next go around!
Cheers,

I had not seen a really good thumbnail display until I saw this case at Tucson. There is something really cool about a whole bunch of very nice, similarly sized pieces lined up. I enjoyed it. Thanks.

Matt, thanks so much for your kind words and taking time to comment.
It surprises me sometimes that thumbnails do not always receive the due attention, recognition and discussion they deserve.
Cheers!

Seen on the road to Cochise's Stronghold. Could it be because of the gravity of the mineral show? Or the shear weight of the inventory moved into the Tucson valley?

I think if you look carefully you'll see Jordi's room at the end of it.
