Hi Chris, first: Thank you for that report, i hope that more pictures will come! But concerning the emeralds: Actually i thought that this locality (the Leckbachrinne belongs to the famous Habachtal/Habach Valley) is very known to many mineral enthusiasts. It is the only emerald deposit in Europe that's worth collecting in larger amounts. Of course the emeralds from there didn't came out in masses as those from number one locality Colombia or from Brazil, Russia or maybe in the future China with its endless mineral deposits; but nevertheless this Austrian valley made it to a very famous gem locality (one of the few "real" gem localities in western/middle Europe besides the famous topaz deposit of Schneckenstein/Saxony and a few others).
But of course not every mineral collector can know all locations in the world, so please don't see that as a know-it-all criticism. And please give us more impressions from Sainte Marie!
Cheers :-)

Chris, thank you for sharing all the Show with people who could not attend it. I would like the atmosphere of the small town sorrounded by mountains in the Vosgos full of minerals and collectors.
Just a detail. I am quite sure the mineral that comes with red spinel is actually pargasite. It is the common paragenesi in Luc Yen Mine, Yenbai Province, Vietnam, as well as ruby of course.
Regards

Hi Tobias,
You just learned me something. It is true that I rarely see specimens from there, the more usual localities being those you mentionned. I should have been more cautious.
The show in itself remains very cosmopolitan with people from almost every corners of the planet. As the previous years you could find all sorts of dealers saling raw amorphous rocks, sculptures, necklaces, as well as minerals. Because of the théâtre's report I spent less time than last year wandering in the streets so I might be wrong. But I had the impression they were more dealers sailing by-products than the years before. Maybe Roger will be more accuarte on this account than myself.
Of course you could see the usual anecdoctes such as :
- Chinese dealers sailing over-oiled fluorites.
- A French dealer exposing Beix fluorite to the sun, not knowing it is sunlight sensitive (I'm curious to know how long it took to turn it colorless).
- A guy wandering between displays with a pendulum searching for something none of us understood.
- An Italian strahler having great specimens form sale at reasonable prices.

Hello Antonio,
You are right, this is paragasite. I've typed a bit too fast. The atmosphere of the place is very pleasant even if newcomers tend to be a bit stunned by all these collectors and dealers wandering around.
What's attractive at Ste Marie as well is the fact you just need a few minutes drive from the show to be in the back country, with only the mountains & forests around you. What a pleasant break after spending several hours in the middle of the crowd. And I forgot to mention both the wines and great food you can find here. if one day you plan to visit the show, I recommend you to keep some days to tour around. The area really worths the visit (I can send some pictures of it through pm requests).

I suppose there is no problem in posting here some photos of the surroundings. Most of us would enjoy them. But you can await the suggestions about it from the moderators.
Cheers

That really hasn't to do with caution. As i said before: None of us collectors knows everything and nobody would consider it a lack of caution not to know every single fact. So don't mind & thank you very much again for that fine report!
There are wonderful specimens on your photos. The showcases with all the gem specimens from Brazil and Pakistan are simply great, also the Erongo specimens of aquamarine, pure eye candy. Another thing that caught my eye was that delicious honey-coloured calcite from China (Daye Mine?); and that gemmy rhodochrosite from Uchucchacua Mine is something i'll sure dream of after i've seen this picture :-) My absolute favourite compared to other two rhodos. And of course the fluorite from La Collada looks great, a cute and tiny micromount ;-) Only the spinel/pargasite combination from Vietnam ... i don't know, looks somehow artificial :-/
Cheers!

Hello Roger,
I'm afraid we chased each other because you were out when I checked at your friend's tent. Will try to remember to get your cellphone number next year.
Thanks for sharing your pictures with us. Looking forward the ones you took in the streets.

Go back to the théâtre which also hosted an exhibition of the minerals that can be found in the Britain region. When needed I've added the mineral's name English translation.
To Tobias : you are right, the calcite is from Daye, Hubei, China.

Hi Chris -
Thanks for sharing your great photos. Regarding geography, to make sure it is clear to the English-speaking readers, the region you are speaking of is Britttany in English :-)
