Debbie:

Thank you very much for posting these photos. The ephesite specimen is particularly interesting; I am not familiar with this mineral, I checked it on Mindat and it is a very rare Na-Li-mica; there are only 7 world localities listed for this mineral (among them 3 in South Africa, including the Postmasburg Manganese Fields, where your specimen came from); all 10 photos on Mindat came from South Africa (one from Wessels mine, the 9 others from Postmasburg), so it looks that the South African ephesites are the best in the world.

Great specimen.

Hello Luiz

Thank you for your comments, your thoughts are much appreciated. I have mixed feelings about this specimen, it's an alien to my collection! I'll explain: it's not from the original Ameib Farm collection I purchased whilst living in South Africa, nor is it a specimen that I selected and purchased. It was a swap with somebody from the USA and was supposed to be a South African Rhodochrosite ! Thanks to David Von Bargen I learned it was Ephesite.

Thanks to Tobias Martin and contributors in this topic https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?t=1668 I have been able to change the identity from what I thought to be Hematite 10 years ago to Braunite-II a few months ago.
