What is Calcite?
Is the one of the most common minerals on earth. Calcite is a carbonate mineral and the most stable polymorph of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). The other polymorphs are the minerals aragonite and vaterite.
The »Calcite« quarry in Stahovica
The »Calcit« quarry cuts into the SE slopes of the valley of the Kamniška Bistrica mountain stream immediately before the settlement of Stahovica. The manager of the quarry, the company CALCIT d. d., began to extract calcite and limestone by the top down method in 1996.

The company Calcit d.d. extracts the raw material from its quarry in Stahovica, whose unique characteristics are an exceptional cleanness and high whiteness of stone, which enable the manufacture of high quality products.
Calcite minerals - samples
Through many years of business cooperation with the company Calcit d.d., we managed to collect some typical example of calcite from the quarry Stahovica. Unfortunately there was no nice calcite crystals.
