Hi Glenn
Wow- indeed those do look like graphite spheres. Remarkably nice for their size,
unusual locality, and breaking free of matrix without splitting. Wonderful find!
Best regards,
John

I'm finding these Graphite spheres right at the contact point of calcite and weathered granite mixed in with some nice Pargasite crystals.

Lovely. That kind of variety reminds me of some of the rosettes that occur at the
Gouverneur Talc Company #4 quarry, Harrisville, NY. Great variety- great micromounts
and thumbnails of graphite in/on calcite.

I found this giant 3-3/4 inch spinel today. Its sitting next to a bigger one but its more crude. These giants made Amity famous over 150 years ago and they are still here.

Glen this is really cool. You must have enjoyed finding it. For me, finding something and being the first person to see it is so fun! Amity is full of unique minerals and is a beautiful place just to visit.

Two of my favorite new Spinel specimens, first one is 1-1/2 inches high and 2 inches at the widest point. Second is five inches overall and has sharp spinels up to 3/4 of an inch

At first I thought they were graphite spheres with unusual facets but they turned out to be a new mineral for Amity, Geikielite a fairly uncommon mineral in the ilmenite family. They are small but very cool looking under a microscope
