Last week I was in Kingston, Ontario, Canada at Queen's University and took some time to visit the Miller Museum in the Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering Building. They have an interesting little collection but I came across a mimetite specimen from the San Pedro Mine in San Luis Potosi Mexico. I have never heard of this locality. Mindat has only one locality for Mimetite in SLP (Promontorio Mine, Guadalcázar) which is not this one.
Anyone has some knowledge on this locality, the San Pedro Mine.
Thanks
Jean

Jean, there is an important mine just outside SLP called Cerro San Pedro, It is currently an open pit gold mine, but historically it had significnt base metal production. I worked the district for nearly 2 years and never saw any base metal secondaries of note however.
This looks like material from the Bilbao Mine in Panfilo Natera Zacatecas to me. It probably found its way to SLP where it was bought by someone who knew San Pedro Corralitos material and somhow conflated the whole buiness into San Pedro SLP.
All that said I have seen similar labels before and wonder if there is a small San Pedro mine we're overlooking in Catorce or Guadalcazar, or even the Charcas area. I will search my database and see what I can come up with.

Thanks Peter,
when I first saw it I thought it was from Mina Bilbao. But I later looked at some of my site visit photograph and various specimens and the matrix seems to be wrong for Bilbao. Any how, let me know if you dig up something different from the dbase.
Cheers

I got this mimetite specimen from Dennis Beals in Denver. The original label only listed San Luis Potosi as the locality. He spoke to someone else and was told the specific locality of San Pedro Mine - San Luis Potosi - Mexico circa 1961. Has this been determined to be the correct locality? Thanks.

Am,
Cannot comment on Mexican localities but especially your close up could be submitted to "For the Love of Dendrites" thread that has been running on mindat. Strange to see crystal groups of a mineral deposited on a rock painted with dendrites. Very attractive.
