These dark smokies can be enormous; sometimes considerably larger than this specimen.

Very nice pieces Pierre, I am partial to thumbnail sized pieces and miniatures, but the large smoky quartz from Erongo (100_1724.JPG) is breathtaking. Thank you for sharing, Marv

Hi Marv. Thank you for your kind comment. I must admit, large specimens are impressive, but we also prefer thumbnails. They are (in general) more affordable and near perfect specimens are far easier obtainable than larger pieces(and they take little space). Best regards:-)

Humble, indeed not Pierre. Outstanding. And by the sweat of your own brow, nicely done. I like hands for scale. Keep up the pursuit and good luck.
More please.

Thanks Vic. Only some are self collected; the others purchased. I am battling with the photography and hope to put some more specimens up soon. Best regards.

PostPosted: Sep 13, 2012 08:32    Post subject: Re: The collection of Pierre and Riana Joubert

I was given this ruby some years ago, together with 2 emeralds by an elderly lady. The origin of this specimen is unknown, but I suspect it came from Zim or higher up in Africa. I have parted with the emeralds long ago; a pity as they probably came from the same area and could have aided in identifying the place of origin .

PostPosted: Nov 04, 2012 06:24    Post subject: Re: The collection of Pierre and Riana Joubert

We, up until fairly recently, never had a personal collection, just boxes and boxes of specimens. Through this forum, we saw the need for a personal collection and have started taking out all the better specimens and placing them in our 'private' collection. We have a large collection of fine Van Rhynsdorp (Western Cape, SA) specimens, some of which will eventually also end up featuring in this collection. We hope you enjoy viewing the photos.
