This old Colorado piece was just finished having some air abrasion done to clean it up a bit. You can compare the after photo with before photo to see the differences.
Description: |
Microcline (v. Amazonite) -- cleaned Lake George area, Park County, Colorado, USA
130 x 124 x 104 mm
Classic, old-time Colorado Amazonite with sharp, light greenish-blue, blocky crystals of Microcline, on a matrix of white Albite (v. Cleavlandite). The Amazonites are well formed and fully terminated, several of which are well-developed twins. One crystal has a "slot" where it once enclosed a blade of what was likely Cleavlandite. This is an old AE Foote specimen, and was later sold by Filer's (Redlands, CA) and the Bradleys (Los Angeles). Formerly in the Don Boydston and Joel D. Cohen collections. It is complete on all sides, unrepaired and has no damage. |

Thanks. These just came out of a stash in China, and I snatched them up as soon as I got wind of them. There is something about Xuebaoding that I really like, and just can't hardly pass up on a specimen from there.

Back in the early 1990s I bought much of the material produced by my friend Graham Sutton at the Veta Grande claim outside Quartzsite Arizona. I kept this piece because the geologist in me liked it. It clearly shows how Fadens are formed.
This Quartz matrix coated with micaceous tan Pyrophyllite hosts many lustrous, mirror-bright, black blades of Hematite to 25 mm across and flattened, clear Quartz points to 37 mm long. What makes this specimen interesting are the parallel Faden Quartz to 17 mm long, which clearly bridge a crack in the matrix, clearly illustrating how Fadens form. These Fadens are accented by small lustrous Hematite blades. Collected in 12/1990 by Graham Sutton. No damage.

Very interesting Bob. Good, visible example of how Fadens are formed.
