Rarities with their type locality in Saxony: chapmanite and emplectite. Both minerals occured only once more after the type discovery, emplectite in the 1980s in a few micromount samples and chapmanite in a single cabinet piece in 2002. Here are two oldtimers:

The pyromorphite from Zschopau was already shown before, here´s another classic from there - the so-called "Blaubleierz". Zschopau was one of the first known occurences of this always sought-after pseudomorphs. This old sample comes from the collection of Fritz Seliger who served as a prospector for the last German emperor.

A rare mineral from the granulites in Waldheim (type locality): prismatine, which was believed to be kornerupine for a long time.

The old mines of Saxony also host a number of type localities also of very rare minerals. My contribution is a picture of a specimen of yellow Xanthiosite on green crystals of Aerugite from Johanngeorgenstadt, Erzgebirge - type and only locality of these extremely rare minerals. (South Terras Mine in Cornwall is listed as another locality and TL for Xanthiosite - but this is a well documented fraud commited by the (in)famous British collector A.W.G.Kingsbury who probably presented a part of a museum specimen from Saxony as coming from Cornwall).
This is an extremely rare specimen - probably part of the type material found in one specimen (Bergmann 1858)and later split between a few museum collections. The pictured specimen in my collection was obtained from the collection of a famous old US dealer and may have come from the US National museum collection.

Indeed a not that often seen mineral. However, xanthiosite is known from a slag locality near Mansfeld in Saxony-Anhalt.

Hi Jordi,

Sankt Andreasberg is wrong in this thread, it has nothing to do with Saxony and Erzgebirge. It belongs to Harz Mountains 200-250 km away. But in the mineral discription i see ANNAberg (which is a well known Saxon area) - so i suppose you just mixed the two names up ...?

Nice Fluorites!!

It's strange that so many Fluorite from so far away make it to Belgium (US, China, Namibia,Peru,...), but I have yet to see one good German Fluorite on a Belgian show!

That stuff is getting rarer, even on German shows. The classic fluorites from the Saxon mining areas are very sought-after, so it gets harder and harder to find good specimens. Nevertheless i wonder that you never find one at a Belgian show!

P.S. Here are some more impressions of Saxon fluorites from Annaberg District ...

The Annaberg pyrargyrite is awesome, Jordi! Historic silver mineral specimens from there are extremely rare today. I have one in my collection too but only massive material.
