Interesting photo's Reyhane.
In regard to your earlier question, I think you can call this type of rock "porphyryritic andesite lava"; the large white phenocrysts would be a type of feldspar. It is certainly amygdaloidal in part, with the otherwise empty vesicles (gas bubbles) now occupied by silica (agate or chalcedony). When the vesicles are filled with another mineral, they are called amygdaloids. The rocks appear to be mostly very 'weathered', in that they have been subject to physical and chemical decomposition.
I wonder how long since this lava was formed, I mean originally, when it was new?

Reyhane, Thanks for the interesting photos. When you say "abandoned agate mine", do you mean it used to be operated commercially? If so, what was the agate used for?
If you are doing this for a thesis, you should probably make a thin section of the rock matrix, which would give a lot of information.

Yes! You are right...actually the groundmass is made of glass with microlites! my supervisor believes that they are basaltic andesite ...your idea is like his
and about phenocrysts ...you are right again:) they are plagioclase ( my lovely plagioclase :D)
And about age...I'm not sure about the Date! it needs more study...But they are not too old! Eocene and later probably! but location is near to a desert and certainly physical weathering is very strong!

It has been operated commercially! But now it's just what you see! Probably there is something below...I have found Amethysts by digging (with hammer only)! They explore over the area not below!
Agate is holy in Islam and used for Rosary and jewellery...Especially red, brown and yellow...If you search Agate jewelry or Agate jewels images you will see lots of pictures
And if you want to see Persian form of jewels, search this word : "عقیق" that means Agate (spell is : aghigh) and it is mostly Cabochon cut here .
Yes I made 13 thin section myself and 30 out!
