Hello all, I have an Ahumada wulfenite that has multiple broken crystals along the perimeter. I was considering attempting to grind away that portion using a grinding wheel. I am curious if anyone has any other suggestions or advice for trimming the piece. Thanks

Please let me be your first respondent and, horror of horrors, state that I like your specimen as is.
I see the broken xtals at the periphery in the 6 o'clock area and the absence of crystals in the 12 o'clock area, but the overall example's shape and edges is not bad at all.
Trying to improve it, even if it works, will make the example not quite so oval and aesthetically balanced. But that is just my eye. CHEERS.......BOB

This is a tough trim with any equipment but using a grinder will probably just leave you with equally visible damage...plus grinder marks
Los Lamentos matrix is tenacious and tends to spall...taking crystals with it. unless you are lucky you will not end up ahead of where you are now.
First rule of trimming is like the first rule of medicine...do no harm.
Consider professional help or get access to a microabrasive unit. and be patient, this matrix does not go away easily and the luster on the crystals is easy to damage.

Thanks to both of you for your input. I will take your advice and leave it alone.

I can either remove the broken crystals and trim the piece if you would like.
