Crystals with pointed terminations are only found in La Pita.
They are called locally "Botella" (bottle).
Matrix specimens are rarely seen.

Hello Pierre!
Thanks for showing your appreciation for this... single crystal or aggregate (am not too sure what this form should be called!).
It's definitely an oddity in the world of emerald.
A remote variety of this form is shown in the attached image - that's also from La Pita.
Although the crystal has the usual flat basal pinacoid termination, the faces parallel to the c-axis... are not parallel! Instead they are slightly curved. I have seen this feature only in La Pita.
Gérard

Hi Gérard. I find this last emerald specimen, as the other similar one, VERY interesting. I want to say lots of nice things about these specimens but words fail me:-)

Hello Pierre
Thanks for your words (or rather the lack of them!).
When I first saw these 2 specimens, I was speechless. I just could not imagine that such forms could exist.
But 7 years and many more trips later, I am yet to see a similar specimen.

Thanks Pierre!
They are indeed special but I am not sure I deserve the compliments.
I am just very happy to expose those oddities to the view of all the mineral lovers of this forum.

Thank you Philippe.
Although rare, this association is seen in both belts, Eastern and Western.

The locality of Peñas Blancas is not only known for its clear quartz often associated with emeralds but also for its phantom fluorite.
These phantoms are due to the presence of chromium which maybe explains why the Peñas Blancas fluorites are never associated with emeralds.
