PostPosted: Nov 04, 2019 12:54    Post subject: Help with mineral identification

Recently I bought a box with minerals from a yard sale. Inside the box was a list with the minerals that were inside at one point, but some are missing, some were probably added later, and a lot are missing the identifying number.

Here is the list of the ones I can't identify:
1. Graphite C
3. Galenite Sb2S3
4. Galenite in sphalerite PbS-ZnS
5. Pyrite FeS2
6. Sphalerite ZnS
10. Hematite red Fe2O3
11. Hematite z Mn?
12. Chromite FeO.x Cr2O3
13. Limonite Fe2O3.xH2O
14. Bobovec (don't know how to translate this) Fe2O3.x H2O
15. Bauxite Al2O3.xH2O
21. Onyx marble?
22. Aragonite CaCo3
23. Hydrozincite ZnO.ZnCO3
24. Sadra (I believe it's Gypsum)
25. Barite BaSO4
27. Serpentine Ng3H4Si2O9
29. Kaolinite
32. Marl
33. Peat
34. Ksilit (i believe it to be petrified wood)
36. Lignite
37. Bituminous coal
38. Antracite
39. Bitumen
40. Limestone
42. Gabbro

Any help to connect the stones with the numbers would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to FMF.

Usually you need to give us more information for an identify. You can find the help in:

Asking: "What is this? / Where is it from?"

And provide us with some basic information about every specimen and clear photographs.

I guess photo 5 is limonite, photo 7 is Hydrozincite, number 14 probably marble and photo 15 could be bauxite.

You also will find pictures writing a mineral name in the box: “Search for an image”. It´s an easy way to learn about your rocks and minerals.

Regards.

OK, thanks for the reply. I'll try to give a more complete description of each mineral.
I don't know where they are from.

So the first one
Black colour
Metallic luster
Brown to gray streak
Hardness about 6
