I purchased the two attached Quartz specimens in the early to mid 1970s while in junior high school. Both were noted as being from Chihuahua state with no other locality information. They were labelled as such, but do not fit any locality I am aware of in that state. I believe they may be from Zacatecas, so am hoping one of the Mexico experts could help me with a locality. Both are small cabinet pieces, one associated with Malachite and the other with Hematite or other Iron oxides. The crystal morphology on the iron stained example is quite distinct if it is indeed from Mexico.

Brent, the first one is almost certainly Concepcion del Oro, Zacatecas...the second one probably (95%) is,...the shape of the crystals is pretty distinctive

Thanks Peter, most appreciated. I looked at the Mindat website for Concepcion and that sure looks like the place. Thanks again!

There are some quartzes with that kind of "waist" from the San Antonio Mine at Santa Eulalia, but they are from the primary zone and are not associated with oxides of iron or copper. Also similar from San Martin-Sabinas in Zacatecas but also not from the oxide zone.
