Barite - BaSO4, calcite - CaCO3
Aesthetic group of barite with glassy deep amber colored and gemmy elongated crystals grown on a bed of yellow calcite crystals coated matrix. From a collecting activity during the fall of 2020. Overall size: 67mm x 43mm. The biggest crystal of barite measures 50mm. Mass: 72g.
Elk Creek, Meade Co., South Dakota, USA. This locality has been producing good specimens of barite since the 19th century.

What a beautiful Barite specimen, Carles. Congratulations.

Hi Don!
I'm glad to hear from you.
Yes, I chose it for its aesthetics. I began collecting minerals in my early teens for the chemistry. But now I do it just for their beauty, as an incredible work of art made by Nature.
I'm often pleased to view your excellent specimens here.

And it was a good choice! An amazing specimen, Carles, absolutely perfect!
Thank you very much, Tobi. Your collection has grown a lot in terms of quality in the last few years. Your taste is much better now.
Thanks, I learned from experienced collectors and since we know each other for many years, you are one of them :-)
The process of learning, developing and maybe specializing is something that every collector should go through. Good to hear from a really experienced and knowledgeable fellow collector that I did it right. Your suggestions (about aesthetics, choosing and discarding specimens, localities, and mineral photography) were always a help for me on this way and your collection was always an inspiration!

Very grateful for your kind words once again, honestly I think I do not deserve them. But every collector needs to have tutors. Collecting minerals is not an ability that can be taken for granted. One should learn it. I'm fortunate enough to still have one fellow that with great generosity helps me a lot when I need.

Fluorite - CaF2
Group of two gemmy pink octahedral lustrous fluorite crystals. A floater that is complete all around and in great condition. Good specimens from this find are now (2021) disappearing from the market. I don't know why but I've always had a weakness for the octahedral and tetrahedral habit crystals (pyrite, galena, fluorite, cuprite, native copper, tennantite-tetrahedrite series, magnetite, etc.).
Whole size: 44mm x 28mm. Largest crystal: 28mm tall, 21mm on edge. Mass: 26g.
From Huanggang, Hexigten Banner, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, China.

Congratulations on this perfect and flawless floater specimen, Carles!
You're right, these fluorites came out in larger amounts and now they disappear, you can be glad to have one. A while ago, I was browsing minerals at a friend's private mineral sale and I held some of these in my hands, very similar to your's in shape and size. But as often, there were too many minerals; an aquamarine on muscovite from Chumar Bakhoor and a chalcopyrite/quartz combination from Cavnic went with me that day and none of the Huanggang fluorites. They're still on my list ;-)
And I know your love for octahedral crystals - so I know how much you love this one :-)

Celestine - SrSO4
Pale blue transparent crystals of celestine showing an uncommon habit for the species rarely found in this deposit. The crystals are elongated and tapered, with steep pyramidal faces that go to the upper vertex. No damage.
The pyramid is actually rhombic in section and may be formed by four microstepped triangular faces with alternating {110} and {111} Miller indices. But they show fairly flat surfaces to the naked eye. From a kind suggestion by Josele.
According to the book Moore's Compendium of Mineral Discoveries by Thomas P. Moore, 2016, vol. 1, page 351, specimens with such a particular habit were first found in February 2006 at the Katsepy mine near Majunga, Sakoany.
From Sakoany deposit, Katsepy, Mitsinjo, Boeny, Madagascar.
Overall size: 85 mm x 65 mm. Main crystal: 65 mm. Mass: 192 g.
