No wonder that pieces like that from South Africa are among the most desired minerals! (And a superb photo btw.) | I totally agree with Tobi. | Thanks Tobi and Dany! I have always wondered just how large the rough had to be to get a gemstone this large ..... | In my humble opinion for sure TOO large to break and cut it :-/ But who knows, maybe it was an already broken or somehow damaged crystal, would be a sad thought for me if someone took a good specimen like the one on the first photo to make a gem out of it ...
Nonetheless a great craftsmanship to do this with a rhodochrosite, I think the crystals are more fragile than classic gemstones like diamond, beryl, corundum or topaz.

Wow Mike, an awesome specimen of red quartz from Dalnegorsk! As both a quartz fan and a Dalnegorsk fan I know that these specimens are highly sought after, and such a large and good one is hard to get. A superb Dalnegorsk classic, I love it!

Nice Wölsendorf classic, good colour! And the cavities seem to be part of a perimorph, do you know more about it?

Thanks Tobi! Unfortunately there isn't any additional information about the cavities.
