A news that, although feared, is no less catastrophic: Le Règne Minéral magazine is closing
https://www.facebook.com/leregnemineral/

We have just ordered 20 copies of the magazine’s latest edition, the Ste. Marie issue, from their website:
https://www.minerauxetfossiles.com/produit/lr-regne-mineral-n178/

They are asking for sales to help pay off debts, and this will surely support them.
By the way, for those who don't know, they have been publishing several extraordinary books over the years!

I will talk much more about this topic later. For now, here is the sad news.

Hello,
I hope my reply will be relevant. As a reader and subscriber since the 1st issue of Règne Minéral (as well as the Mineralogical Record), I know this 'bedside and office' magazine well.
From issue 2 onwards, I understood the seriousness and audacity of Louis Dominique Bayle. He dared to give the general public information that was inaccessible at the time (no computers), such as explanations of the colours of minerals. Of course, there were many who said, Louis-Dominique, you're exaggerating, but I never was. L-D has in fact aroused the curiosity of a few young readers who have realised that patient and lengthy university studies will give them knowledge, perhaps the key to material success, but above all their 'freedom of thought' (ou mieux la « Liberté de penser »), based on facts.
Isn't it interesting to explain to young children the nature of the rainbow that adorns the sky after a storm? As soon as they understand this double celestial arc, they'll feel a great sense of satisfaction without having to beg the gods of Olympus for an explanation if they're playing forbidden games.
And then they'll be able to admire a ruby or an emerald more...

Myself, with bits of candle, I took over the publication of the monthly magazine "AGAB-Minibul" in December 1986. In September, I published an article by Jacques Rocchia d'Orléans (Dr. Vulcanology) on the dynamics of the oceans. In a short report on the conference given by Prof. Dr Fréféric Hatert, I used a number of photos to describe the collection of Henri Ungemach Ing. (ETH Zurich) and Dr. - Strasbourg), a colleague of Georges Friedel. I also briefly explained the life of the great scientist from Liège, Joseph (José) Donnay (Prof. Baltimore), who rubbed shoulders with the greatest American mineralogists. His work in theoretical crystallography is widely recognised. (on the net : http://agab.be )
The sad news of the disappearance of "Le Règne Minéral" at a time when "Le Monde Général" is turning upside down interrupted my writing on an article about cubanite, a remarkable mineral that highlights the very different properties of chalcophilic copper compared with lithophilic silicon.
I share the grief and distress of Louis-Dominique, who had become a friend. Our role, all of us, is to encourage young people to understand the Earth that shelters us, ab initio and not by slogans. Courage Louis-Dominique. More than you know, you've helped young people to open their eyes, even if they haven't become collectors. It's the parable of the sower...

Thanks for the fine article, Roy. If anyone wants to read Louis-Do's editorial translated into Spanish, here it is:
https://www.foro-minerales.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=163031#163031

By the way, interestingly, the photo by Ray
https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/download.php?id=111730
shows Tiziano Bonisoli and his sadly deceased son Elvio at the Le Règne Minéral stand.

Louis-Dominique Bayle and Le Règne Minéral have always been a reference for great mineral collectors around the world...
