Nice little fluorite specimen Xiao-dong! It makes a change for me to see a 'local' specimen on this site - Coldstones Quarry is only 20mins away from me! (I don't collect there as it is a large working [limestone] quarry). Nice example with the strange purple spots/edges.

A thumbnail shows interesting habit of chalcocite: a "nailhead" formed by hexagonal crystals stacking together.

A piece of etched sulfur, looks like canary yellow coral. The specimen exhibits kind of dissolution to an extreme with many 'tunnels' extending deep into the sulfur and with several going all the way through.

I agree with Tobi. A really unusual and beautiful piece.

PostPosted: Jul 27, 2014 23:13    Post subject: Re: Collection of Xiao-dong

Maybe this specimen is not pretty enough, but it records my very first collecting experience.

This is my first Mimetite specimen (in 2009), it's botryoidal, but not exactly the type I want. I was looking for botryoidal mimetite from Congresso-Leon / San Pedro, but was not able to find any on ebay. So I bought this one instead, and told myself: "Well, it's from Mexico, and it's yellow, and botryoidal... keep it instead." :-)

Now I realize that it's an old collection from Santa Eulalia District.

A classic old time Mimetite specimen from Santa Eulalia. A quartzite matrix hosts some silky yellow botryoidal Mimetite across its face.

Mirror luster spear shaped Stibnite forming sprays with small Siderite on surface. Actually, these are small Siderite rosettes. When I have chance, I'll take some macro photo of it.

Two Rhodochrosite stalactite specimens.

The first one shows a twisted growing stalactite.

The second one has orange-brown color due to Fe2O3 I think.
