Barcelona 10/23/2010
As I did in Ste Marie 2010 ( https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?p=12033#12033 ) I start this "official" thread of Munich Show 2010 asking to everybody whom will attend the Show to complete the brief notes of the fair that I'll write and generate a so complete chronicle of the fair as was done in Ste Marie 2010 -> https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?t=1159
As an appetizer here is the poster of the official show program. I apologize for the poor quality of the image but it has low definition originally.
To see it on better way: https://www.mineralientage.de/presseservice.html
To see all information about the Fair: https://www.mineralientage.de/
In addition, two photos of one of the small new finds of this year: Fluorapatite with small crystals but good color, related with beautiful crystals of Bertrandite covering Albite crystals. Nothing exceptional, but very interesting association and Bertrandite crystals very well defined and transparent. This material appeared in May 2010 in a small "Caldeirão" (pocket) of the Golconda pegmatite, Governador Valadares, Vale do Rio Doce, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
I take the opportunity to remember this other thread related with Munich 2010 -> https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?t=1368

On the road 10/24/2010
Driving to Munich, so just a short note today.
This year Munich Show seems to be more promising on novelties than past years. Cuprites from Laos, Chrysoberyls on matrix from Madagascar, Bultfonteinites (not Oyelites) from South Africa, and some rumors about Chinese and Indian novelties seems to prepare a more exciting show than previous years. We will see.
More to come...

Just arrived to Munich and here it is cold, and worst, they announce chill winds for Wednesday, so to the people coming here, better to bring warm clothing. As you can see in the photo even the bird that welcomes us appears to have cold! ;-)

Jordi is absolutely right and i can only prewarn everyone who comes to Munich: Germany got VERY cold during the last days, so prepare for freezing. It's even frosty here in the middle of Germany, that usually means the south is cold as hell ;-)
But i wish all of you who join the show A NICE STAY IN GERMANY and a great mineral show! And please - take a lot of photos for the rest of the FMF community ... :-)

I envy those of you who will be able to attend the Munich Show this year. You will have a unique chance to see the display on the Santana Bed fossil assemblage from the Cretaceous siltstones at Chapada, Brasil. Here are some photos of insects from my collection, specimens purchased at Tucson in 1995.

Cold? This morning the sun is out and it looks like a nice fall day here in Munich. Guess we better get out and enjoy it while it lasts. See everyone at the show.

Correct Jesse, today was very good, sunny and blue sky. I had a talk with Steffen Waris, technical manager of the Show and he said that next days the weather will be fine too, so at this point, I don't know.

Munich 10/30/2010
One of the most important novelties of the fair, if not the most important, has been the new Alabandites from Uchucchacua mine. At my return to Barcelona I will publish some picture of them.
Although in the past some good Alabandite appeared in Uchucchacua mine, this time in the 300 level of the mine and at 895 meters deep, it was found a considerable number of pieces (about 60) and with very good quality (for the species ). Well formed crystals, some with a nice contrast with the white matrix, and sometimes with Rhodochrosite. The dealer who got this material is Teodocio Ramos, well known for its excellent Peruvian specimens. He has kindly written these lines to share the joy of a so important discovery:
"The first samples of Alabandite were found the first week of September 2010. As I didn't know what mineral species was, I immediately analyzed. When I got the results I was very happy, because Peru finally has a major discovery and also on a good time, just close to the Munich Fair, which is the best place to please the collectors searching for new minerals, especially from Peru.
Thanks gentlemen worldwide collectors.
Teodocio Ramos"

It's getting late and I'm dead tired; some shots of the collectors' show cases will follow tomorrow. Meanwhile, just a quick glance at hall B5, which many specimen collectors may have missed. (B5 and B6 are the gemstone paradise.)
The exhibition Fliegende Juwelen - Flying Jewels (see https://www.vision-of-nature.com - link normalized by FMF) by Robert Jakob and Markus Klein presents amazing juxtapositions of butterflies and minerals, many more than the three examples below.

The butterflies and rocks exhibit is an expansion of one shown here last year. There is an article about it in a recent issue of Rocks ^ Minerals, and the collectors have just published a very nice book on it.
The size and scope of the Munich show is truely overwhelming, and far surpasses any of the individual shows that make up the overall Tucson show. A detailed report on everything to be seen would be huge, so one can only give a few impressions.
Here are a few photos of the alpine minerals exhibit, which focused on Mont Blanc, as well as some displays of famous deposits in the Italian alps. The show theme was "Brazil" and had another marvelous exhibit. I'll try to post on that one later.
Prost!
