PostPosted: Aug 13, 2008 21:00    Post subject: Re: Harvard Museum of Natural History - Gail at Harvard

My first passion for a mineral was the San Francisco Mine Wulfenite at the Houston Museum of Nature and Science. I couldn't stop looking at it. I had gone, with Jim, to see the Alma Queen SHM Rhodochrosite and was enamoured with that, but the wind was knocked out of my sails with the Wulfenite. I still am intrigued with the incredible window panes and mimetite. There is a nice one below, it is quite large that is part of the Harvard collection.

Carl came out and opened some drawers to show us the "good" stuff. Here we are talking with Carl about manganite specimens. He also had us study a nice Wulfenite and review its unusual crystal structure. Pinch me, this is my idea of a good time!
