|
|
Hello,
I bought this piece in september 1999
The label said Hemimorphite with Smithsonite?? on limonite matrix.
I think the black mineral is Plattnerite or some manganese oxides.
The smaller Hemimorphite xx are transparant.
Is it possible to pinpoint the location down to or the Ojuela mine or to a mine in the Santa Eulalia district?
Thanks for your help.
Regards

Oxide zinc orebody
levels13 to 16
Mina el Potosi
Santa Eulalia
Black is chalcophanite
I do not see the supposed smithsonite but many specimens from this find have botryoidal willemite that was misidentified as smithsonite

Just add to the always proper Peter's comments that this botryoidal Willemite is very fluorescent instead the Smithsonite which is not (or just very, very, little fluorescent), so we can use the fluorescence to discriminate both species.
