Hello together,
it's my first message in this blog and i'm not a native speaker in english. Please, sorry for my bad english, i hope, you understand me. Since 7 years i am a mineral-collector and now i have a little, fine (for me!) collection from all arround the world.

Now, i've a specimen from an old collector in germany, he died sometime ago. The description of the piece: sphalerite, tennessie

I've seen many pictures on mindat.org and mineralienatlas.de and at least on the pages of fabre. I mean, it's spalerite, baryte, dolomite and quarz from the elmwood mine Carthage, Tennessee.

Can it be?

Dear Filderstone,

Welcome to The FMF !!!

In my opinion your specimen is definitely from middle Tennessee. There are several mines which may be connected underground in that area viz Elmwood, Carthage, and possibly Cumberland. I believe that I the morphology of the Baryte is almost pathognomic of Elmwood. I am not an expert but I have several specimens that are indistinguishable from your specimen that have Elmwood labels. Your sphalerite and dolostone matrix are also similar to those found in Elmwood.

Don

Yes, the specimen looks very much like those from the Elmwood Mine.
