PostPosted: Mar 07, 2014 03:29    Post subject: A mineralogical trip through the states of Mexico

Hi friends

I've been collecting mineral for over 18 years, and I still consider myself as an amateur collector focused in Mexican minerals. Anyway, I'm not wrong when I say that Mexico has some of the most beautiful minerals of the whole world, and there's not a proper collection without Mexican minerals such as adamites, wulfenites and others.

Though there's a lot of threads related to the classical Mexican localities, there's also a lot of hidden or not-well-known minerals or localities in Mexico that deserve a mention.
So, I wish to make a call to all of you to make this thread named -A mineralogical trip through the states of Mexico, to learn more about the Mexican mineralogy.

I guess we will see lots and lots of photos of beautiful specimens of Mexican minerals.

Thanks, and please help me to make this thread.

To start the trip, I'd like to mention the State of Coahuila.

Formerly Coahuila de Zaragoza, is the 3rd largest state of México and it's located in the northeastern México on the US border.

Mineralogically, Coahuila is known for it's deposits of Grossular garnets from Sierra Mojada(at the nothwest), Fluorite from Muzquiz (at the center) and Celestines from Ramos Arizpe (at the southern). Coahuila also has one of the biggest iron mine, (Hercules mines' Prometeo, Tiber y Electra), and the biggest coal deposits of México.

Actually this is a very good initiative, adding Mexico to the list of "Mineralogical trip through" countries will add a lot to the forum. I am looking forward for the countless number of good mineral specimens that will delight us.

José Luis.

Hi Carlos,

i really like Mexican minerals and i think it's a good idea to make such a trip like we did through Germany, the UK and the US before! But better than just making this simple thread for all Mexican minerals you should plan this together with Jordi, so the result could be a whole forum area dedicated to your country where every state has its own thread. But this is up to you, it was just an advice because i did the same with my idea of a trip through my homecountry Germany and Jordi helped me to develop it ...

Cheers!
Tobi

P.S. As a first contribution to your idea, here's a collage of Mexican specimens from my collection:

Jose Luis, Tobi.

Thanks I appreciate your support to this thread.

Tobi your collage is awsome, I can't wait to see more of your contributions to this thread

Jordi, please help us to make this thread. I believe this will bring a lot of fun and entertaiment to the fórum, and of course we'll see lots of pics of fabulous specimens from the collections of the members.

Carlos,

You can't start a "Mineralogical trip" like this without any request to the administrators, it is something complex that needs much more than just "jump in" as you did, otherwise it will create a kind of chaos in FMF.

I locked both threads and when I finish my small Show in Madrid this weekend I will come back to you in order to discuss about this topic.

In the meantime please don't create new threads neither discuss about this in public. Thank you.
