Are the Sphalerites a dark Orange or more of a black color under normal lighting? It's somewhat hard to tell as there appears to be Orange backlighting.

Indeed they are a bit translucent lustrous brown color. In the last photo there seems to be a reflection effect from the matrix that gives the sphalerite an orange hue. But it's not real at all.

Thanks for your words.

Carles,

The fluorite, sphalerite specimen looks perfect and your photography is excellent as usual. I enjoyed seeing it.

Thanks for posting.

Don

I'm glad you like it. Thanks for your kind comments.

It's not my photography that is excellent but the specimen that is photogenic.

I like on that specimen that the fluorites seem to have a deep blue colour instead of the usual purple. I know there were several pockets with such blue fluorites, and I think they were much rarer than the purple ones. So the specimen combines rarity and a nice paragenesis with a prominent previous owner - congratulations 👍

Tobi, I have serious doubts that my fluorite and doctor Steve Neely were generated at about the same time at exactly the same place :-)

Many thanks for your always kind comments anyway.

PostPosted: Apr 10, 2015 08:38    Post subject: Collection of Carles Millan - Xuebaoding combo

Beryl, cassiterite, scheelite, albite, muscovite

Uncommon paragenesis of beryl, scheelite, cassiterite and albite on a bed of crystallized muscovite, all in a matrix slab made of a granitic rock. The beryl crystallography is also remarkable since they are hexagonal prisms, up to 28 mm wide, lacking the typical side faces. Only the two pinacoids {0001} and a second order pyramid {1121} can be seen, both faces forming an angle near 45º (π/4 rad). The beryl crystals are transparent and only very slightly blue, almost colorless. There is a very neat and unusual elongated grouping of black cassiterite 53 mm long and a partly gemmy orange scheelite crystal 14 mm wide. Overall dimensions: 115 mm x 84 mm x 34 mm. Weight: 342 g. Undamaged (at least to the naked eye).

Mt Xuebaoding, Pingwu Co., Mianyang Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China.

Nice piece!
Did you check fluorescence under short wave UV? Some beryl from this locality are somewhat fluorescent due to small, not visible at naked eye, scheelite inclusions. This one, having a scheelite crystal very close, is a good candidate...

Hi, Josele!

I didn't. But I'll try as soon as possible. Thanks for your comments.

Nice combo Carles. All you need is an apatite, and you would have everything.

Of course! And a good kësterite crystal too. And then a tube of Super Glue to attach them.

Many thanks for your words.

They are very good at gluing things together over there!!! You knew that was exactly what I was thinking when I wrote the comment.

I don't think I have ever seen a combo with this particular group of minerals. Great find.
