I would like to locate vendors of mineral specimens in the Catania/Messina region of Sicily for my upcoming visit. Are there any "classic" species known from the Mt. Etna region (besides sulfur)?
Thanks.

Hi Richard! First of all you have to remember this is not a commercial forum. About your problem, I think you can achieve more information at the local museum of natural history in Catania itself. I recommend that you NOT TRUST mineral sellers you may find on the road. I saw some people selling common copper sulfate declaring it as "covelline"! I hope I was useful for you.

Thanks for the advice. I will avoid the roadside vendors for sure. I'm really going for the food! My wife and our other two traveling companions will not tolerate too much mineral hunting while we are on vacation.

And remember to tell us about your trip. I'll be visiting Rome next week but for following year I have Sicily in my mind :-)
Cheers!

Certainly! Even if there are no minerals involved :-)

Hi Arturo!
Are you visiting Rome? Then don't forget to have a visit to the volcanic lakes surrounding the city! They are very very interesting for minerals!

Riccardo,
Do you have any suggestions for Puglia as well? |

Hi Tmcombs!
Ok Puglia is a very beautiful land, with nice typical cities and towns, like Bari, Brindisi, Lecce, Ostuni etc., the Gargano mountain and the very particular village Alberobello with its conic buildings ("trulli"). From a mineralogical point of view it does not offer so many possibilities unfortunately, but for dome jasper in the Gargano and fossils in the lands close to Bari and Taranto. But... never say never! And of course enjoy your trip to Puglia if you are intentioned to come there!
