PostPosted: Jul 08, 2011 09:02    Post subject: Mineral labels as art ;)

Just an idea that i want to share with you: I never collected mineral labels intentionally, but after two decades of collecting you gather some of them who are quite old or from a known collector or just look exquisite. And i worried about them just lying somewhere in a drawer or so. So i took a choice of them and arranged them as a collage, framed and hung up the wall. Here some impressions of those "mineral labels as art", that actually decorate my home office ...

Cheers!
Tobi

Hi Tobi,
Thank you for posting this. The labels look amazing. Perfect timing too, I was just thinking I need to create consistent labels for my collection. Thanks for providing some great ideas.

Two collections better than one!!!! Nice collage, Tobias.

I agree with you, Anne Marie, I must design more consistent labels for the collection. The display, the boxes, labels, showcases are very important as well. But improving the labels is unexpensive and easy.

Cheers

Yes Antonio,
We need assistants to do the all that work :-) I'm hoping I can get to the labels by the end of the year, then hopefully I can take some lovely photos like the ones that have been posted on the forum. For now I hope you are enjoying your rocks.
Best wishes on your project, Anne Marie

Thanks for your comments, folks!

It is not that easy to finally find consistent labels for your own collection; often it takes long time and many designs to find one you finally want to have for your collection. If you are interested (and maybe as an inspiration), here are some of my own private collection labels in different designs:

Be nice to see the specimens that go with these labels!

Ed...how about posting one of your labels? For those who don't know Ed Huskinson does beautiful caligraphy labels!

Peter, i don't have good pictures of the specimens, and i also don't keep all of them anymore. But i provided some of the better specimens above via links to my collection thread.

And Ed, if you read this: I agree with Peter - please show one or some of your wonderful calligraphy labels, i always enjoy them :-)

And to all of you: Please don't consider this "my" label thread - i would like to share the label layouts with the whole FMF community; it would be interesting and inspiring to see the different styles and tastes ...

Nice! I had the same idea some time ago and the result were two collages of labels from H. Antonjewitsch/Berlin (late 1950s-1980s period). Inspired by these labels I crafted my on ones as shown.

Very nice, Andreas, echt schön!

Speaking of labels - i found this article by Rock Currier on Mindat, could be interesting for most of us:

Cheers!
