Today the news have surprised us: scientists from LIGO have confirmed the detection of gravitational waves one hundred years after Albert Einstein predicted them using his General Relativity Theory:

Though it is not related to minerals, in FMF we are always pleased to share news about scientific discoveries. Really a great present for the celebration of Einsteins' theory first centenary!

This is one of those discoveries that will be remember hundred of years form now. Long after all the world's problems fade into history. Note Einstein received only one Nobel prize and that was for his explanation of the photoelectric effect.. He never received one for either Special or General Theory of Relativity.. ----- This is from a retired physics teacher and mineral collector.
