I went to minfind. dot com yesterday and today and got:
This site is not secure
This might mean that someone’s trying to fool you or steal any info you send to the server. You should close this site immediately.
I've been going to this site for many years - does anyone know what is going on?
thanks,

I've noticed that too. Did they let the URL expire? I really liked minfind. _________________ Edward Bayley |

I was told there was a death on the development team and it has been taking some time to regain access to the servers so they can update the security certificate. |

I work in tech, and all that means is that the SSL security certificate for the website either doesn't exist or is expired. Usually you have to renew the SSL certs every year or few years, so it's not all that uncommon for one to expire because the website owner forgot to renew it, or for some other reason like the SSL cert file being moved.
If it was with a newer website or some random website, then there could be some concerns, which is why web browsers throw up the warning page about the site being unsecure. Scammers who set up fake spoof websites try to make their website look like the website that they are spoofing, which often causes conflicts with the SSL certs. That's the main reason the browsers give the warning.
I don't think that someone is trying to spoof minfind, since there is little to gain, so I personally wouldn't be too concerned about it. Most likely, their SSL cert expired because they forgot to renew it. Maybe shoot them an email today let them know that the site is showing as unsecure. They'll probably have it fixed rather quickly I would think. In the meantime, you can choose to disregard the warning and still get to the site if you wanted to anyway. |

you can indeed get to minfind by clicking on "details" when the alarm comes up then click on "Go on to the webpage (Not recommended)"
this works

I've been trying to go to minfind dot com for some time now and only get:
"Sorry! Minfind dot com is currently being moved to a new, more permanent home where we hope it will work without interruption!
Apologies for the recent disruption and lack of availability. We will have this working again soon. "
Does anyone have an idea when this will be back?
thanks,

I tried asking on the mindat.org Facebook page, and basically got no response.
I really miss that site... especially now that I'm stuck at home with little to do :-P |

Going through an ownership change - for a while, it split from mindat, but it's now getting transferred back to mindat. |

For years it wasn't being run by mindat, so people there didn't know what was happening with the site. |

a note from Jolyon Ralph from mindat:
"It may be possible that minfind dot com can return under our control at some point in the future, but it's unlikely in the immediate future. For now it's likely to remain offline."

Wondering if perhaps there was any known update regarding the return of minfind .As we wait, are there any other sites that do something similar? (Putting the name of a mineral in a search bar to see where it is being sold.) |
