PostPosted: Jun 08, 2020 13:35    Post subject: Thought about locality of this Celestine

Dear Friends of Minerals,

I recently bought from a old collection this specimen, the old guy (now in his 85 year) told me that this was from a Russian dealer maybe 10-20 years ago.

The question is about possible locality, if this size and parallel grow give some clue to solve, I don't think is Madagascar one.

Any help, very appreciate.

Max

Hi Max,

I don't really have an idea where this specimen comes from. This is not really a help, but I have seen similiar large celestite crystals with such a blue hue from several U.S. localities, especially from Michigan (Holloway Quarry, Maybee Quarry). Sorry for not having another idea, I fear this specimen could be from many places around the world :-(

Regards
Tobi

P.S. Is it confirmed that this is celestite and not maybe barite?

Thanks Toby for your suggestion.

Actually I have not verified if it can be barite (I had considered the declared species reliable), but since it does not have a matrix I can try to make a specific weight test;
with this size it should be quite determinable and I will give news.

Regards,
Max
