PostPosted: Jul 30, 2009 08:19    Post subject: Re: Granate Collection

Thank you for posting your fine photographs of lovely mineral specimens.
Specimen number 3, beryl labeled as from Tokovaya, Urals is in fact from Scherlova Gora Mountain, NW of Borzya, Chitinskaja Oblast, Transbaikal Region, Russia.

(the small mountain is easily visible on google earth with its open pits (for cassiterite etc) just to the east of the Transsiberian Railroad before crossing into China (just east of Mongolian boarder).

Best regards
Peter

Thanks for the information Peter. I bought this Beryl 50 years ago and in the label the location was Tokovaja river (Ekaterinenburg ). Are you sure about the location you tell me?. (Sorry for my very bad English language)

Hi Paco,

Regarding the Russian beryl, I also thought it was from the Adun Chilon Mtns. where the Sherlova Gora locality used to be included. Color, termination and zoning parallel to the basal pinacoid are characteristic features of beryls from that locality. Anyway, many beryls from the Transbaikal region were labelled as coming from the Urals in the past. I hope this can help.

On the other hand, my congratulations for your great collection I am really enjoying in the Spanish forum and now also here. And thanks for sharing it with all of us.

Best regards,

Felix Garcia

Hola Paco
Peter

PLease note correction to my first note> shall be WEST of the Transsiberian Railroad.
See maps.google or Google earth (Sherlovaya Gora)

https://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=sv&geocode=&q=Sherlovaya+Gora&sll=50.473239,116.305389&sspn=0.508678,1.668549&ie=UTF8&ll=50.547908,116.250801&spn=0.063484,0.208569&t=h&z=13

The greisen carrying aquamarine and topaz on smoky quartz is to the west of the middle of the large open pit and is easily seen on the satellite image as a light sand colored hillside with a very green small forest on top (to its north)

Adun Chelon is this large massive (same granite intrusion as the previous not connected at the surface but at depth and interpreted from gravimetrical/geophysical survey. Adun Chelon is only but eroded deeper, thus possibly greisen formed at the roof of this part of the pluton has eroded)
