Some photographs from a visit to Carrock Tungsten Mine, Mungrisdale, Eden, Cumbria. The workings pictured are from the older 1915 workings. I have included a few shots of minerals found from the location.

The circular section of mine workings I originally thought was the base of a huge flue. This was later identified as the base of a wash plant. I found the huge internal fin mechanism absolutely fascinating.

I really enjoy finding and seeing these old workings. It's interesting to imagine the travels at those times, to and from for product, people, and other materials.
Thanks,
Bob

At the time of both world wars it was classed as an area of strategic importance, Sappers from Canada were mobilized to work it in second world war. German prisoners of war were also utilized to mine the vital supplies of tungsten required for the war effort. In Elizabethan times highly respected mine engineers made enormous exploration of this area for the crown at great expense to the nation. So, you are correct in that it has a diverse past lol

Most interesting to see my original name of Wolfram or Wolframite was corrected to Ferberite.
Is Wolfram the same as Ferberite
Ij just looked on Wikipedia and found the following information
"Wolframite is an iron, manganese, and tungstate mineral with a chemical formula of (Fe,Mn)WO4 that is the intermediate mineral between ferberite (Fe2+ rich) and hübnerite (Mn2+ rich).[4] "
I used to label my specimens as Wolfram or just Tungsten ore. Shall I correct my label's?

Wolframite refers to the Wolframite group of minerals which includes Hübnerite and Ferberite, or to material that is intermediate in composition between these two end members.
https://www.mindat.org/min-39780.html
From the mindat page for the locality:
https://www.mindat.org/loc-1425.html
In the mineral list I see that Ferberite is not mentioned and Hubnerite is crossed out. Instead 'Wolframite Group' is listed. I am not sure why but I suspect that the material here is intermediate between the two species and you are best left with just naming the material Wolframite.

The AI answer:
Ferberite, an iron-rich member of the wolframite series, has been identified at Carrock Mine, located in Mungrisdale, Cumbria, United Kingdom. This mine is notable for being the only British tungsten deposit outside of southwestern England that has been commercially exploited. Specimens of ferberite from Carrock Mine have been documented
Several examples can be found in the FMF gallery: https://www.topminerals.info/index.php?searchterms=woframite+carrock&searchauthor=-&level=search using 'wolframite', the former name of the Ferberite species.
(Well, in fact, using 'woframite' due to a typographical error of the user that I'll correct soon... 🤭)
