PostPosted: Oct 01, 2023 12:45    Post subject: New sapphire discovery in BC Canada

My name is Herb Hyder and I have been searching for new gemstone deposits in BC Canada for over twenty years. My three biggest discoveries you can google are Mt. Odin amethyst, Whiteman Creek fluorite, and Bluejay Claim sapphire. My Bluejay sapphire discovery is in the September 2019 issue of Rock and Gem magazine and online. I study geology and I am a mountaineer. I search the mountains of BC Canada for gemstones and mineral specimens. I used to work for mining companies, and I worked in Mexico looking for silver and doing stream sediment samples near Acámbaro and San Miguel de Allende. I then worked for mining companies in BC Canada looking for rare earth elements and graphite. Following that, I worked for mining companies in the Yukon looking for gold and for mining companies in Nevada searching for graphite. In 2012 the recession happened and most mining companies stopped hiring geologists and prospectors, so I started working for myself. I went homeless and started sleeping in my vehicle. I rely on donations to survive but I never gave up on my dream....the dream to find new gem deposits in BC Canada. My hero is John Sinkankas and he predicted new gemstone deposits and mineral specimen localities would be found in North America. I study lots about gemstone and mineral localities. There is gem grade sapphire In Montana and ruby and iolite in Wyoming and even sapphire in Alaska. There are nine sapphire localities in BC Canada and I found three of them. My last big sapphire discovery was called Bluejay sapphire discovery. Unfortunately I got cheated by the man who purchased my claim. He promised me profit sharing and money for my bread-and-butter quartz crystal claim and blue arrow iolite claim. Long story short it turned into a battle and he still owes me. But the gift of prospecting is within me so every year I search unclaimed ground in the mountains. I study the geology and cover the ground. It can take years of finding nothing in-between discoveries. This summer I worked harder than ever and after a four day walk over glaciers, I made a new sapphire discovery near Revelstoke BC Canada. So far I have found well-formed crystals of pink sapphire and blue sapphire and ruby. The pink sapphire and some blue sapphire glows under UV light. I have found pink and blue sapphire combos. The sapphire occurs in gedrite an amphibole sillimanite cordierite schist. The well-formed sapphire occurs in cordierite veins that crosscut the amphibole sillimanite schist. Unfortunately the season in BC Canada is very short at high elevation in remote mountains near a glacier. Prospecting and mining season is from June to September. It has snowed in the mountains. I claimed the site. Now the challenging times of trying to survive a Canadian winter homeless in my truck. But I claimed the sapphire discovery. Next summer I will go and collect more sapphires and continue my research. The best sapphire crystals I found were sent to the university of Newfoundland and a few private collectors.
