This came with an old label saying it was from Hiendelaencina, Spain.
I asked the Spanish side what they thought, and the answer was 'not Hiendelaencina and maybe not even Spain'. Missouri, USA, was suggested.
What do you think?

With those overgrowths it looks more like Tri-State/Old Lead Belt (Kansas?) rather than Viburnum. Doesn't look right for the Baxter Mine, but possibly ha neighborhood

There are only a couple of Hiendalaencina galenas pictured on Mindat (and none on Mineralienatlas), and they don't look anything like the one that started this discussion, so perhaps indeed that is not from Hiendalaencina, as confirmed by Spanish FMF members.

| Because of the cuboctahedral overgrowth, I tend to agree with Peter. This looks like classic Tri State material (Oklahoma/Kansas/Missouri). Is there any matrix on the back side of the specimen? Tri-State minerals generally occur on a matrix of light gray chert.

I fully agree with Peter and Michael, this looks too typical for Tri-State. Galena is a main focus in my collection an as a quite experienced galena collector I have no other idea than Tri-State. You won't get the exact mine but I think you can be 99% sure this is Tri-State material. But like Michael, I'd like to see the backside and the matrix.
And though I have knowledge about galena, I don't know much about ones from Spain. But for sure I have never seen something like that from Spain (maybe because there are not many good ones. I think I have seen one really fine specimen in Jordi's shop some time ago. Maybe he reads this and knows more ...:-)

Jordi contributed to the discussion the Spanish side and suggested Spain is unlikely, although Linares-La Carolina could be possible for the Galena but not the Sphalerite. Thus I think tri-state looks right.
I do not collect USA material so may return this

Thank you, James, looks good! And it made me research the one that I meant when I said I remember one galena from Spain, it's this one:

As I said, Spain is not a country that comes to my mind first when thinking about galena, but this piece Jordi once had for sale is just a stunner!

Sadly there is no matrix to see as it is just Galena with a Sphalerite sidebar
