PostPosted: Feb 19, 2025 22:23    Post subject: Calcite pseudomorph after aragonite from Sicily

This specimen came from the private collection of a calcite collector who donated it to a museum. It was later sold to me. It was labeled "calcite after aragonite " with locality Girgenti, Sicily, The locality obviously seems to be a mistake. It is the capital of Agrigento which has numerous aragonite localities. My first question is whether it can be considered a pseudomorph. My second question is can anyone provide a more specific mine or locality in Sicily?

Yes it is a typical pseudomorph of calcite after aragonite. The locality is Agrigento, probably from the Cozzo Disi Mine.

I always get a bit unsure about these forms. Is it not a perimorph or an epimorph?
