The last picture seems to show conchoidal fracture, indicating that it probably glass. The rocks also look water or wind worn, which would suggest that perhaps your hardness measurements are off.

This is a stumper. Sorry to bring this up bit is there any way it could have been faked? Have you tried to figure out if the barite has been glued onto that matrix?

Is there a reason why you could not use a heat test to see if it is bismuth? Bismuth melts at 271.4°C (520.5°F) which is a temperature that can be achieved in an ordinary oven.
