Hi Frank,
"Ex" is a word, not an abbreviation (e.g., ex wife). It basically means "former" or "formerly".

Does anyone know what the dark line is that runs up through the middle of a lot of brookite crystals? I've attached an example picture.

I picked up a beryl from the new find in Orissa, India. It has a very linear inclusion. I've heard that this can be a hollow tube that filled with debris. Has anyone else seen this in beryl?
